Exact calculation method
Room area (sq ft) = length (ft) × width (ft). Add the room areas, calculate the material allowance, and add it to the measured area. Boxes = final material area ÷ coverage per box. Internal calculations retain full precision. Box quantities are rounded up to the next whole box when box coverage is provided.
Worked example
Room: 10 ft × 12 ft. Measured area: 120 sq ft. Material allowance: 10%. Allowance amount: 12 sq ft. Final material area: 132 sq ft.
Measurement tips
Measure each room in feet at its widest and longest points. Split L-shaped spaces into rectangles.
Plan for this material
Calculation method: Room area = length × width. Add room areas, multiply by the allowance percentage, then add that allowance. Packages = final area ÷ package coverage.
Example: A 10 ft × 12 ft room is 120 sq ft. At 10%, the allowance is 12 sq ft, so the final requirement is 132 sq ft.
Before calculating: Measure at the widest and longest points. Split L-shaped spaces into rectangles and label each part.
- Add every space that will receive the same product, including closets and connecting areas. Enter separate rectangles for L-shaped rooms so the combined measured area remains easy to check.
- Adjust the extra-material allowance for the actual room shape, installation pattern, and product guidance. The default is a starting input, not a rule.
- For a purchase estimate, enter the coverage printed on the exact box or carton. Similar products can contain different coverage, so exact product information matters more than an assumed box size.
