Exact calculation method
Final hardwood area (sq ft) = measured area × (1 + allowance rate). Cartons = final area (sq ft) ÷ carton coverage (sq ft), rounded up. Internal calculations retain full precision. Final board and carton quantities are rounded up only when a whole purchase quantity requires it.
Worked example
A 15 ft × 16 ft room is 240 sq ft. At 10%, 264 sq ft is required. With 20 sq ft per carton, buy 14 cartons.
Measurement tips
For random-length hardwood, use the square-foot coverage printed on the carton instead of estimating a board count.
Inputs and results
Enter each rectangular area, choose Imperial or Metric, and adjust the visible material allowance. Product packaging information is optional and should come from the product box, carton, or manufacturer product page. Results separate measured area, allowance, final area, and whole purchase quantities.
Limitations and assumptions
Random-length board selection and layout change piece use. Nails, staples, adhesive, barriers, and cost are excluded. Allowance depends on room shape, pattern, cuts, damage, product defects, installer recommendations, and manufacturer instructions.
Use this result for planning only. Verify measurements and order quantities with the product manufacturer or qualified installer.
